Kinross, one of the world’s leading gold mining companies, set out to do something different at one of its tier-one mines. With 1,500+ employees underground and onsite, the challenge wasn’t just about productivity—it was about creating a culture of safety, mental health, and wellness where mindfulness could thrive.

The Problem

Traditional mining workshops are boring. Endless PowerPoints, compliance-heavy lectures, and technical jargon that leave employees disengaged and disconnected. With little storytelling or interactivity, they rarely address the real physical, mental, and emotional challenges miners face. It was time to stop with the PowerPoints—and bring on the entertainment.

The Solution

We flipped training on its head. First, an original animated film gave employees a character they could see themselves in—sparking openness and reflection. Next, six short videos broke down the film’s themes, encouraging honest conversation. We then introduced immersive VR lessons that gamified learning and helped employees confront real-world challenges. Finally, the key lessons were distilled into a take-home graphic novel—part story, part toolkit—designed to be read, remembered, and kept.
